Engineered wood is real wood - let's be clear about that from the start. Every plank has a genuine hardwood veneer on top, usually European oak, bonded to a multi-layer plywood core beneath. That construction is what makes it so clever. The cross-stacked layers give it the stability that solid wood simply doesn't have, meaning it handles moisture, temperature changes, and the general demands of family life far better than traditional hardwood.
The result is a floor that looks exactly like real wood (because it is real wood) while performing like a modern, practical flooring solution. It can go in rooms where solid wood can't, over subfloors where solid wood would struggle, and it will last for decades when properly fitted and cared for.

Not a printed effect, not a laminate. The surface you walk on is authentic hardwood with all the natural grain, character, and warmth that comes with it.
The layered construction resists the expansion and contraction that causes solid wood to gap, cup, or creak. Better for Staffordshire homes where central heating creates dry conditions in winter.
Unlike solid wood which can't cope with underfloor heating, engineered wood conducts warmth efficiently and remains stable. An excellent choice if you're upgrading your heating system at the same time.
The engineered construction supports wider and longer boards than solid wood, creating a more seamless, contemporary look with fewer joins across the floor.
Engineered wood can go in spaces where solid wood wouldn't be recommended, including rooms with concrete subfloors and areas with moderate moisture variation.
Real wood develops character over time. Engineered wood does the same — gaining the patina and warmth that makes a room feel genuinely lived-in and loved.
A properly fitted engineered wood floor will last 20 to 30 years. It can often be lightly sanded and refinished to bring it back to life if it ever needs refreshing.

Our main engineered wood supplier is Evergreen Floors - a premium UK flooring brand known for quality construction, authentic finishes, and a wide range of styles to suit everything from period Staffordshire properties to contemporary new builds.
Species & Styles:
European Oak — The most popular and versatile choice. Available in a wide range of tones from pale natural through to rich smoked and dark walnut finishes. Oak suits virtually every interior style and every type of Staffordshire home.
Finishes available:

Straight Plank - The classic choice. Clean, timeless, and works in any room and any direction, depending on the space.
Herringbone - Engineered wood in a herringbone pattern is one of the most striking floor choices available. The 45-degree pattern creates a dramatic visual impact that immediately elevates any room. Our dedicated wood flooring fitter specialises in herringbone installations. It's a technical job that requires precision and experience to do properly.
Parquet — For period properties and rooms that call for something truly special, parquet block patterns create a floor with genuine heritage character.
Poor subfloor preparation is the single biggest reason wood floors fail. Boards that creak, edges that lift, and surfaces that show movement are almost always the result of cutting corners at the preparation stage. We don't cut corners.
Our dedicated engineered wood fitter handles every installation. This is a specialist discipline separate from carpet and LVT fitting, and we treat it as such.
Our installation process:
Subfloor Assessment - Before anything else, we assess the subfloor. Concrete, existing boards, and screed each require a different approach,r equire and we'll tell you honestly what's needed.
Subfloor Preparation & Screeding - Where the subfloor needs to be built up or smoothed, we apply professional screed to create the ideal base. A properly prepared subfloor is non-negotiable for a wood floor that lasts.
Acclimatisation - Engineered wood needs time to acclimatise to your home's temperature and humidity before fitting. We factor this into every installation schedule.
Professional Fitting - Whether straight plank, herringbone, or parquet, our fitter brings the precision and patience the job requires. Every cut is measured, every join is considered, and the finished floor reflects that.
Finishing & Trims - Professional threshold trims, door bar transitions, and finishing beads complete the installation, giving it the polished look it deserves.

We handle subfloor preparation including screeding, but we do not carry out deep levelling work. If your subfloor has significant height variation or structural issues that require specialist levelling, we'll tell you honestly at the assessment stage and advise on the right approach before any flooring goes down.
There are no surprises with Bestbind.

We only fit engineered wood, and here's why that's not a compromise. For most Staffordshire homes, it's actually the better choice.
Both have a genuine hardwood surface, so there's no difference in how they look or feel underfoot. Where they differ is in performance. Engineered wood is compatible with underfloor heating, whereas solid wood generally isn't. It works on concrete subfloors in homes in Staffordshire, whereas solid wood doesn't.
It supports wider, longer planks without bowing or gapping, and its layered construction handles the moisture and temperature variation that central heating creates far better than solid wood.
A quality engineered wood floor will last 20 to 30 years, and can be lightly refinished once or twice during its lifetime if it ever needs refreshing.
For most Staffordshire homes with concrete ground floors, underfloor heating, and the demands of family life, engineered wood isn't the compromise. It's the better choice.
Engineered wood looks different in every room depending on the light, the wall colours, and what's already in the space. The only way to truly know how a floor will look in your home is to see it there.
That's why we bring our complete engineered wood sample collection to you, completely free with no obligation. We'll visit your home across Staffordshire and the West Midlands, show you the full Evergreen range in your actual space, assess your subfloor, and give you an honest quote on the spot.
